Since the Smoke Ring works on Interconnected FA. Do I really only need one?

Yes, the 2GIG Smoke Ring and 2GIG Firefighter are both designed to take advantage of interconnected AC smoke detectors. Only one is needed in that circumstance.
Just make sure that if any one of the detectors go off, all sound.
